JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE: TEMPORARY CUSTODIAN
Reports to: Director of Maintenance
Bargaining Unit: CGM
Status: Temporary
Start Date: When Filled
Days Per Year: 40
Hours Per Day: 8
Wage Range (Salaries are stated as an estimate only. Actual salary is confirmed only upon hire/job offer.)
$ 25.41 - 27.69 per hour
Note: Employees are paid the last working day of each month.

Position Specifics
Job duties specific to custodial tasks. May assist in other areas if asked.
Support and assist in furniture moving, space scheduling, room arranging and reassigning according to the needs of reconfiguration. Other duties as assigned to assist, prepare for, integrate and operationalize the reconfiguration of school.
Basic grounds duties such as scotch broom removal, sidewalk cleaning, picking up litter, mowing, edging, weeding, trimming shrubs, irrigation, noxious weeds, tennis court repairs, crack filling/repairing and dirt work.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Dry and wet mop floors, hallways, restrooms, classrooms, and office areas
  • Vacuum carpeted areas and spot clean stains on carpet, using extractor when needed
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles in hallways, classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchens, cafeterias, and locker bays
  • Spot clean windows in entry doors and classrooms and mirrors in bathrooms
  • Wipe down desktops and countertops in classrooms and offices
  • Clean bathrooms by sanitizing toilets, sinks and counter tops - sprays surface with disinfectant and wipes down surface
  • Sanitize drinking fountains - sprays surface with disinfectant and wipes down surface
  • Replace toilet paper and paper towel and replenishes soaps in assigned areas
  • Lock/unlock doors, arms/disarms security system and turns lights on/off
  • Pick up trash, debris, recycling and debris on exterior of assigned buildings
  • Restock supplies such as toilet paper, paper towel and hand soap
  • Write up work and supply order requests and respond to requests from staff using School Dude or other systems
  • Change light bulbs and other light maintenance tasks
  • Moves furniture, repair furniture as needed
  • Uses buffers, scrubbers, and carpet extractors to perform deep cleaning
  • Scrubs walls, doors, and other surface areas
  • Cleans interior and exterior windows
  • Pressure wash
  • Ensure entrances and exits to buildings are safe and clean
  • Assist and work together with custodial, ground and maintenance staff
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students and providing a positive environment
  • Duties as assigned
  • Work cooperatively on projects with teachers, staff, coworkers, and students
  • Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives
  • Punctuality and job presence
  • Report needed repairs and safety hazards to the proper maintenance personnel.
  • Request custodial supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Routine driving duties using district trucks for trash pick-up and furniture moving.
  • Provide custodial services for school and public events which includes set-up, opening and closing buildings.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed in this position description, valid Washington State Driver's License, ability to pass pre-employment requirements including a Washington State Patrol check and FBI clearance. Must maintain a legal and approved driver's license during employment to drive District vehicles.
  • The ability to efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies and equipment, to follow common cleaning practices and procedures, to maintain buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition, to have safe practices related to cleaning methods and procedures, to perform basic math to calculate accurate dilutions of cleaning agents, to follow laws and procedures related to use, storage and disposal of chemicals, trash and waste materials, to participate in the injury prevention program, to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing, to relate well to students, staff, parents and the public, to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others, to perform repetitive tasks, and to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Prior school custodial experience and/or custodial experience are preferred. Be mechanically orientated and comfortable on 6'-8' ladders.

Dust mop, Wet Mop, floor scrubbers, Wet Vac, Carpet Extractor, vacuum (backpack style), rags, cart, hand truck, desk/table mover, ladders, pressure washer, handheld radio/ phone
Supervision and Controls over the Work
The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The employee's work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
