Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
    OR
  • Four (4) years of experience in the U.S. Military Services, peace officer, Airport Operations, or other security related field.
  • Any combination of the above

Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
Prevents introduction of weapons, bombs, explosives, and other devices, by remaining visible and present in assigned areas while patrolling airport property and surrounding areas as required, conducting safety and security training, and responding immediately to airport security breaches and alarm violations.
Inspects facilities and ensures safe operating conditions and cleanliness on daily basis.
Submit work orders or corrective action.
Enforces federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances by issuing citations, warnings, notice of violations, and conducting inspections.
Follows all COA, DOA and Terminal Operations policies and procedures.
Monitors airport activities, inspects airport property and facilities and uses security tools and equipment and processes to identify and deter potential threat elements.
Respond to medical, fire, hazardous materials, disturbances, security violations, aircraft alerts and crashes, burglaries, alarms, and other emergencies as necessary and implements emergency plans.
Ensures ICP is established when necessary.
Investigates accident scenes to include, interviewing suspects and witnesses, following-up on accidents/incidents by contacting witnesses, gathering and sharing information, etc.
Write technical reports utilizing ASOCS program.
Work cooperatively with the public, peers, subordinates, and superiors.
Recommends improvements to supervisors and management.
Provides customer service to the general and traveling public, ABIA and COA Employees, other governmental agencies in a friendly manner.
DRIVER’S REQUIREMENT:
This position requires a Valid Texas Class “C” Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
This position will also be required to drive on the AOA.
ASSESSMENT:
A skills assessment will be required for this position.
ON-CALL/CALLBACKRESPONSIBILITIES:
Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.
SHIFTINCENTIVE:
Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.
ESSENTIALPERSONNEL:
This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

Pay Range
$26.00 per hour

Hours
Rotating shifts (combination of five/eights or four /tens), to include; evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Staff are typically assigned a shift for 24 weeks before rotating, but may change based on operational needs.
Hours may change depending on departmental needs.
Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer service experience to include directly communicating and interacting with the public.
  • Experience in facility inspection and documentation to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Experience using a two-way radio system.
  • Experience writing technical reports.
  • Previous Airport Operations experience.
