GENERAL DEFINITION:
A position in this class serves as a Tele-Communications Operator for a 9-1-1 E Public Safety
Answering Point and Communications Center on a rotating shift. Work includes receiving and sending
messages via radio and operating procedures. Direct supervision is received from a shift supervisor.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
Receives emergency and non-emergency requests from citizens for public safety services.
Determines, by inquiry, the exact location of the place or point of emergency and dispatches the proper
equipment. Operates Computer Aided Dispatch System, keeps status of Police, Fire and EMS units for
emergencies.
Operates State-Wide CLEAN and NCIC system for Police units, motor vehicle checks, enters
stolen vehicles, plates, property, wanted persons, missing persons. Transmits and monitors multiple
public safety radio frequencies. Operates EMS radio systems to allow EMS units to communicate with
area hospitals.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the geography, highway and street systems in boroughs and townships within the
County of Lehigh.
Ability to receive and transmit communications effectively.
Ability to respond appropriately to stressful emergency situations.
Knowledge of computer and typing skills necessary.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a standard high school curriculum and some work experience; or any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.

Pay: $23.29 - $31.85 per hour
