SMMA has an exciting opportunity for a mid-senior level Telecommunications Designer to join the firm’s Engineering team, a talented group of designers and problem solvers. This candidate will work on stimulating projects at our Cambridge and Providence offices. Given SMMA’s integrated and multidisciplinary composition, the role affords a chance to coordinate and work closely with staff across numerous areas of design expertise and provide exposure to various projects and client types.
The mid-senior level Telecommunications Designer will assist the lead Telecommunications Designer in the development of plans and specifications for projects of various types and applications. A balance of technical, communication, client interaction and organizational skills is needed for this role as well as an inquiring mind that thrives in an ever-changing technological field.

Key Responsibilities:
· Under the supervision of the lead telecommunication designer this role will develop plans consisting of voice, data, security, and audio/visual designs.
· Produce plan mark-ups for revisions to AutoCAD and Revit drawings.
· Create and modify details tailored for each project.
· Participate in construction administration activities such as reviewing submittals and performing construction punch lists.
· Engage with clients to understand their goals and to offer recommendations/solutions as a leader in telecommunication systems design.
· Engage in technical discussions with the project lead or as part of a project team meeting.
· Review plans with all disciplines to ensure development of well-coordinated construction documents.
Minimal Qualifications:
· Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
· 5 - 10 years of experience in designing low voltage systems using AutoCAD and Revit.
· Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
· Strong knowledge and fundamental understanding of communications cable infrastructure (e.g., voice, data, security, audio/visual), equipment and applications.
· Eagerly pursuing or in possession of Registered Communications Distribution Design (RCDD) certification.
· Knowledge or familiarity with applicable telecommunications standards (e.g. ANSI/TIA and BICSI).
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
