GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Use the arts to engage and educate youth in grades 6-12. Guide youth in developing technical artistic skills that reach tangible, measurable goals in addition to generating the intrinsic benefits of improved self-esteem, discipline, respect, commitment and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop goals/objectives for organizational arts programs, including clear inputs, outputs and desired outcomes.
- Plan, schedule, and implement arts opportunities that develop technical skills, appreciation and interest among members.
- Deliver varied and relevant content options.
- Encourage members to develop personal styles and express themselves.
- Create arts offerings for implementation in standard classrooms beyond the art room and support peer staff in their content delivery and instruction.
- Evaluate program objectives and plans by
o Monitoring and evaluating program achievement against goals and
o Recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests.
- Develop community resources and collaborative partners.
- Publicize the arts program.
- Collaborate with and oversee arts volunteers.
- Organize arts-themed field trips and special opportunities.
- Research available arts scholarships/contests and support qualified members to apply.
- Order supplies/materials within budget guidelines.
- Organize storage materials and control use of materials/equipment/tools to prevent loss or abuse and minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Other related work as required (this job will evolve to meet the needs of youth).
OTHER PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Deliver a range of arts programs and high-yield learning activities that are fun, engaging and instructional. Ensure members actively participate and receive caring supervision, respect, and recognition for their efforts. Provide feedback for continuous program quality improvement.
- Supervise program areas and uphold club outcome goals in an environment that promotes the health, safety and success of members; Manage behaviors according to the Club’s Discipline Policy.
- Promote physical and emotional safety, positive values and ethical behavior among youth. Provide trauma-informed guidance to members; act as role model.
MEASURABLE JOB OBJECTIVES:
- At least 50% of active Club members will participate in arts programs 75% of the time.
- Participating members will demonstrate improvement in self-esteem, discipline, commitment, respect and teambuilding through arts experiences.
- Present at least one public art show in the community by members per trimester. • Increase community support and collaboration in support of art shows.
- Member artists will be regularly celebrated through Club displays featuring youth art.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Demonstrated artistic success and technical mastery.
- Minimum education required: high school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with youth.
- Ability to motivate and keep youth engaged and effectively manage behaviors.
- Ability to plan and implement quality youth programs.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Strong interpersonal skills – interact effectively with co-workers on all levels as well as with members and community.
- Cultural sensitivity and mission-driven in all interactions. Valuing diversity is a must.
- Must pass criminal background check and drug screen.
