Position Summary:
The Counselor will utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. This program will address academic, career, and personal/social development for all students enrolled in the TEEN Program. This is a full-time position for the Summer Program.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Counseling Services:
- Develop and implement a counseling program under the direction of the Program Director.
- Communicate counseling services to students, families, and education stakeholders.
- Utilize program data to develop comprehensive programs to meet student needs.
- Implement developmentally appropriate group activities and workshops on life readiness and family-related subjects.
2. Individual Student Planning:
- Assist students with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
3. Preventive and Responsive Services:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, and other resources.
- Implement an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.
4. Community Development:
- Provide outreach and develop partnerships with related agencies/organizations.
- Participate in designated meetings, special events, and recruitment activities.
- Develop a network of relationships with community resources to enhance program opportunities and exposure.
5. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Must fulfill NY State and federal program requirements.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of counseling experience with at-risk students and families.
- Experience developing and leading life readiness workshops.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and psychology.
- Experience in individual and group counseling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Flexible schedule, including occasional weekends and evenings.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Credentialed Prevention Professional/Prevention Specialist (CPP/CPS) certification preferred.
- Relevant coursework/training towards certification.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
