  • The College’s research portfolio is diverse and conducted by faculty, students, post-doctoral associates and staff in seven departments: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics.
  • To further develop our intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer footprint in society, the Office of the Dean of the Eberly College of Science is seeking an Intellectual Property-Technology Transfer Liaison (Technology Licensing Officer).
  • This position reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation within the Eberly College of Science.
  • This position will be expected to:Educate faculty, postdocs, grad students and research staff about IP and Tech Transfer.
  • Meet and regularly interact with researchers within the College to increase the capture of potential IP.Assist researchers/inventors with filing invention disclosures and throughout the patenting process and contribute to the work for the Penn State Patent Review Committee.
  • Advise and coordinate the activity of the IP/Tech Transfer Graduate Student Intern.
  • Lead the solicitation for, proposal review, and coordination of the Lab Bench to Commercialization (LB2C) and other similar grant programs.
  • Work with the Penn State Office of Technology Management to market IP generated within the College.
  • Communicate and coordinate regular meetings of the Tech Advisory Board and the Biotech Advisory Board of the College.
  • Work with communication offices in the College to publicize tech transfer related opportunities and success stories both internally and externally.
  • Work with development offices within the College to meaningfully engage alumni and match alumni mentors with compatible boards and/or researchers.
  • Contribute to growing a culture of technology transfer and entrepreneurship within the College by partnering with other Penn State units to build experiential, educational, and/or networking events, including events for Penn State StartUp Week. Contribute to other efforts in the Office of Innovation.
  • The IP and Tech Transfer Liaison is also expected to have exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, the ability to meet deadlines in addition to the ability to manage multiple projects, maintain accurate records on progress and relationship building, and be able to communicate effectively with faculty and other research personnel.
  • Education and Experience:Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in a science, technology, or math discipline, plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in IP generation or Technology Transfer.
  • This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work.
