Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).  Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.  Our VISION is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. The Hazardous Materials Management Department is looking for a high performing individual with an attention to detail to perform technician duties in support of chemical inventory at the NNSS.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Technician I:

  • Provide hazardous materials support to Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) employees, supervisors and managers in areas assigned. Assignments include but are not limited to performing review of requisitions for chemical purchases, utilize Maximo and Open Range to create chemical records and enter chemicals into inventory system, print chemical barcodes/RFID tags, and provide assistance as needed to shipping/receiving warehouse with barcoding/RFID tagging chemicals, inventory and performing routine verifications of chemical storage.
  • Perform quarterly inventories of chemical storage locations
  • Position involves indoor work in an office setting and outdoor work in construction areas, activities in extreme temperatures, work in chemical protective clothing, work in construction areas including underground areas, and in nuclear facilities, and work with employees in all levels and professions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Technician II:

  • Provide hazardous materials support to Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) employees, supervisors and managers in areas assigned. Assignments include but are not limited to performing review of requisitions for chemical purchases, utilize Maximo and Open Range to create chemical records and enter chemicals into inventory system, print chemical barcodes/RFID tags, and provide assistance as needed to shipping/receiving warehouse with barcoding/RFID tagging chemicals, inventory and performing routine verifications of chemical storage.
  • Ability to review and comprehend Safety Data Sheets
  • Update chemical records with chemical constituents, notate GHS hazards, and upload Safety Data Sheet
  • Perform quarterly inventories of chemical storage locations
  • Ability to identify and verify proper storage and chemical container integrity.
  • Position involves indoor work in an office setting and outdoor work in construction areas, activities in extreme temperatures, work in chemical protective clothing, work in construction areas including underground areas, and in nuclear facilities, and work with employees in all levels and professions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

 

Technician I:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some vocational training preferred.
  • Planning/organizational skills and initiative, and use of independent judgment.
  • Working knowledge of office software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of technical vocabularies and terminology common to the assignment.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills with proficiency in composition, proofreading, and grammar.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • The primary work location is at the NNSS, located in Mercury, Nevada (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas).
  • Work schedule is designated at 4/10's (Mon-Thur).  Some overtime may be required. 
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Technician II:

  • Associate degree in field related to position or High School Diploma plus 2 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Planning/organizational skills and initiative, and use of independent judgment.
  • Working knowledge of office software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of technical vocabularies and terminology common to the assignment.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills with proficiency in composition, proofreading, and grammar.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • The primary work location is at the NNSS, located in Mercury, Nevada (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas).
  • Work schedule is designated at 4/10's (Mon-Thur).  Some overtime may be required.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’

Annual salary range for this position is: $43,222.40 - $75,067.20.


Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
