What would you do as a DME/Cast Technician?
The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Technician is responsible for providing splinting services, fitting braces, and applying other DME for the treatment of patients. After being fully trained in casting (6-8 months), the employee will be reclassified as a Cast Technician. You can expect to regularly:
- Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and other Durable Medical Equipment (DME);
- Remove sutures and provide other wound care as applicable;
- Educate patients on the use and care of DME such as braces, crutches, canes, walkers and other equipment and ensure patients sign Proof of Delivery (POD);
- Document the care administered and charges into the patient's electronic medical record;
- Set-up, prepare and maintain DME and supply rooms;
- Room patients when needed to maintain clinic flow.
Requirements
- Certification/Education
- High School Diploma/GED;
- Knowledge of
- Customer service principles;
- HIPAA regulations and procedures
This position operates in a clinical environment.
Physical: The noise level is usually moderate. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, and similar conditions are possible. The use of a casting saw may be required.
Travel: This position may require travel to other clinic locations based on manager discretion.
