Job Title: Technician of Special Projects, Design and Construction

As the Special Projects Technician - Design & Construction, you will personify this mindset while performing tasks involving the maintenance and updating of the District's record drawings and as build archives, processing Kansas-One (K-1) call requests, and facilitatingutility locations of privately held and maintained services. You will bring strong technical skills, a positive attitude, creative mindset, and diligent work ethic to the role.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Develops designs using basic knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical including code requirements, assists in developing project specifications
- Produces construction drawings on projects as assigned
- Monitors and maintains appropriate communication with contractors, site administrators, District personnel and other appropriate individuals during the design/construction process to successfully complete projects and to produce and maintain archive drawings
- Duplicate plans for bidding and other construction related needs
- Files and maintains plans, submittals, reports, building data and related information to the District's buildings/sites
- Researches and maintains inhouse record drawings of existing District building/projects as needed for District administrators/personnel
- Receives field as built information and updates record drawings
- Process flagging notifications for digging request for excavations near existing underground utilities, and ensure all personnel involved are notified
- Supply data reports and other submittals to outside firms for surveying and borings, and review resulting drawings for accuracy and filing
- Develop and update the District's CAD Drafting Standards
- Maintain database of CAD drawings of District's sites. Revise as required to maintain District's CAD standards
- Participates in committees and monitoring projects as assigned by the Director of Design and Construction
- Maintains and facilitates delivery of architectural/site information, in electronic and paper form, of District's schools to architects, administrators, shop personnel, etc.
- Responsible for developing furniture layouts and assisting with procurement
- Performs site investigations and diagnose issues as needed, facilitates the completion of remedial work
- Completes various special projects as assigned by the Director of Design and Construction
Additional Duties:
- Conducts ongoing ADA needs assessment, manages the District's transition plan, and initiates corrective measures as position warrants
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Travel between schools and central office is required.

- Daily schedule may change to accommodate deadlines and monitoring or projects in the field
- All physical functions necessary to do architectural drafting and in the field inspections, including driving, crawling and climbing

- Good or correctable eyesight with depth perception and color vision
- Good or correctable hearing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, written and graphically with a variety of clients and/or owners
- Experience reading and deciphering information form construction drawings and specifications and the ability to communicate in the same format
- Ability to produce prompt construction drawings using professional standards and nomenclature
- Ability to maintain and develop REVIT and CAD standards for the District
- Strong knowledge of architectural design
- Basic knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, surveying and engineering design
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks, changing assignments on short notice, performing under deadlines and working in a calm and efficient manner
- Ability to organize, prioritize and communicate effectively
- Effective team leader during the construction project, and a valuable team player in achieving the facility goals
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
- Expertise in AutoCAD and understanding of Revit
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the District and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Construction design experience
- Obtain drone pilot license within one year from date of hire
