As a Technical Writer, you will be working with the Director DevSecOps, UX, and Technical Communications, researchers, program managers, and Parallax clients. When working with your team, you will provide support transitioning software from research teams to help mature each project’s source code and documentation.
In this position, you will not only be writing technical documentation but also supporting transitioning software from the research team and other projects/application teams to help mature the project’s source code and documentation to enable a smooth transition.
Additionally, a typical day-in-the-life of a Technical Writer includes:
- Researching, organizing, writing, editing, and producing technical documents such as manuals, procedures, and specifications for major technical projects.
- Ensuring technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
- Managing tasks during all aspects of the document development life cycle.
- Working closely with stakeholders (such as program management and technical teams) to identify and isolate issues and then propose and test editorial improvements for a smooth software transfer.
- Collaborating with researchers, engineering, and technical staff while analyzing requirements and developing source material.
- Supporting internal user experience research studies
- Supporting internal strategic communications efforts including research, content creation and/or editing of written, visual, and multimedia assets
Ideally, you are looking for your next long-term challenge and have these skills:
- Experience with Git including merging, conflict resolution, and rebasing
- Experience with Issue management tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or JIRA
- Experience with Markdown
- Experience using information architecture and visual communication principles
- Experience producing a variety of technical documentation, including usage guides, reference documentation, and tutorials
- Bachelor’s (or higher) in Communication (Technical Communication) or English (Technical Writing) or equivalent coursework or professional experience
- Experience interacting with technical teams and marketing/communication teams
Furthermore, do you have, or want to develop these skills?
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with teams working with Kubernetes
- Experience with LaTeX
- Experience with DITA
- Knowledge of product marketing and branding
- Experience with markup languages (e.g., HTML, reStructured Text, YAML)
- Master’s degree in technical writing or technical communication
