Description
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Technical Project Manager leads plant projects to ensure that they are completed within schedule and budget. Plan and designate project resources, prepare budgets, monitor construction progress, and manage communications and stakeholder engagement. Work across all departments and manage resources effectively to meet project scope and deliverables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Gathers factual data to support projects and/or modifications to equipment or processes to improve reliability and efficiency. Develops effective cost justification for projects or actions proposed. Completes necessary forms such as Proposed Project Request (PPR) and Project Justification Form (PJF) as well as facilitation of stakeholder meetings, decision making exercises and project closing. Compiles project status information and prepares monthly project update reports, including facilitation of monthly meetings and monitoring of project forecasts to assure they are accurate and up to date.
  • Maintains close contact with plant Business Services personnel to assure that all work plan and budget activities are complete, and the work plan inputs are accurate and up to date. Communicates any pertinent guidance or changes to appropriate station personnel so that funding is coordinated with outage schedules and project plans. Monitors and assists with analysis of station spending to help manage budget and project forecasted spend.
  • Assists engineers with equipment inspection, troubleshooting, data collection and cost estimation. Assists with document and drawing management for new/modified equipment. Assists Core Teams with identification of spare parts, development of preventative maintenance (PM) work orders and new/modified equipment documentation.
  • Coordinates training and commissioning of new/modified equipment
  • Coordinates and executes field projects and activities, including planning and scheduling of work, supervision of project/maintenance crews and outage activity execution. Responds to call out and on call rotation duties.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to core teams as needed.
  • Assists Station Management in developing reports, analyzing trends, conveying instructions, and making recommendations.
  • Provides details to Environmental on project scopes and helps determine if permits/migration is required.
  • Plans and develops work packages consistent with current industry practices. Clearly specifies terms of compliance for contracted work. Clearly specifies tools, equipment, parts, safety, quality, environmental and productivity requirements in work packages.

  • Measure project performance to identify lessons learned for improvement.
  • Provides project management services to coordinate planning, design engineering, procurement, field construction and execution, documentation management, project turnover and closeout to stakeholders. Leads lessons learned and assures lessons learned are documented in database.
  • Utilizes Purchasing Department to obtain proposals, participate in bidding process, negotiate, and execute contracts, communicate with various service providers, and labor contractors, and procure material and services to manage project costs effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field.
  • 5 years' experience managing industrial projects.
  • Self-starter with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical equipment found in power plants such as pumps, motors, steam turbines, generators, gearing, breakers, lubrication / cooling systems, instrumentation, diagnostic software, heat exchangers, and valves.
  • Ability to work safely, timely, and within budget.
  • Budgeting and expense tracking experience
  • Possess the following skills: able to communicate at all levels, excellent written and verbal communication skills, Strong problem solving and resolution skills, ability to manage multiple tasks with varying due dates, able to assist in the field.
  • General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint...etc.) and Accounting/Purchasing Software
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience leading teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • PMP certification
  • PE license
  • MS/MBA
  • Primavera/MS Project experience
  • BS/B.Eng. Chemical/Mechanical engineering
  • Power plant ELG project experience
  • Power generation experience
  • Continuous Improvement practitioner

The work environment combines both office and plant working conditions. Candidate must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection harnesses. Employee may be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. The successful candidate must occasionally work outside normal business hours as necessary to support emergent situations and planned outages. This position is a plant-based position and is not eligible for remote work scheduling.
