Laboratory Trainer
This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading national PCR lab. The Lab Trainer is responsible for training Lab Assistants and Scientists in all phases of sample processing. Ideal candidates will possess strong training, presentation, facilitation, and communications skills. The Trainer must be able to draw from both internal and external resources to develop training materials and maximize their effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Provide input to Supervisors regarding trainee’s progress and performance; may also conduct process and compliance audits as needed
- Train new hires and existing employees on an on-going basis ensuring they can learn critical skills needed for career progression
- In conjunction with Supervisors, train new employees in Pre-Analytical Operations and Scientist roles; ensure new employees have all the tools required during training
- Develop programs and curriculum for job training
- Update training program according to current processes and following proper approval chain
- Develop and update job aides as needed for employees
- Be able to perform the duties of Lab Assistant II and is current on the duties of Lab Scientist.
- Collaborate with management to identify training needs and schedule appropriate training sessions
- Communicate with management to determine training needs and training schedules of employees
- Identify problem areas / training deficiencies and develop recommendations / plans for solutions
- Analyze the effectiveness of training and develop appropriate modification if needed
- Develop systems to monitor and ensure employees are performing their responsibilities according to the training
- Provide support and mentor new employees while conducting an evaluation; identify where improvements are needed
- Work with QA and Safety Supervisors and attend meetings to implement changes as appropriate
- Lead and/or assist in continuous quality management for the laboratory
- Evaluate and assist with lean projects in the lab to improve overall processes
- Must be willing to travel to other labs, up to 40%
Requirements and Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Scientific field required
- 2+ years prior PCR laboratory experience
- 2 years of testing using OpenArray workflow and QuantStudio instruments.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to details
- Able to maintain confidentiality of personal information (i.e. medical, financial, and legal).
- Broad understanding of sterile technique and cleaning for a PCR lab.
- Basic understanding of data and internal controls
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willing and able to travel to other labs; up to 40%
Compensation: $75k - $90k annual salary
