Job Description:
The Technical Lab Assistant assists laboratory technical staff by performing various pre-analytical and support functions as well as approved testing as applicable by CLIA regulations.
- Performs testing as assigned by department supervisor in accordance with the CLIA regulations.
- Assists with quality control and quality management functions as directed by department supervisor.
- Assists technical staff by loading patient samples onto laboratory instrumentation.
- Participates in establishing new techniques and procedures in the lab.
- Assists with maintenance of laboratory analyzers as directed by department supervisor.
- Orders and performs specimen log in functions in the laboratory information system.
- Performs pre-analytical specimen preparation.
- Processes referral testing according to established requirements.
- Processes specimen rejections and aides in appropriate resolution.
- Responds to customer requests and aides in problem resolution with prompt follow up.
- Maintains required competency assessment with appropriate documentation.
Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- Associates of science degree or currently pursuing college course work in medical laboratory sciences preferred.
- Previous lab experience preferred.
Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
