Overview:
The Enterprise Monitoring team is responsible for monitoring and managing the performance and availability of the M&T network and applications. The Monitoring Technical Engineer III will focus on ongoing maintenance and strategic initiatives focused on the M&T enterprise monitoring to improve uptime across the technology footprint and identify and quickly resolve issues. As part of the enterprise monitoring agile team, the Monitoring Technical Engineer III will also perform as a team member providing expertise and input to improve the groups monitoring posture across the enterprise. The position should have a solid understanding of monitoring technologies and the ability to maintain and operate multiple monitoring platforms to track, alert and report on technology issues and functionality.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create short and long terms plans to improve the bank's monitoring architecture and infrastructure
- Create trending information of system issues and work with partner teams to clarify variables to support efforts to address identified issues from the analysis
- Create and document procedures for work order and request-based tasks
- Respond to and resolve identified technical incidents requiring expert problem-solving based on knowledge of system and adjoining systems
- Use advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues
- Complete systems maintenance activities following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), such as patching, health checks, operating system updates, validating changes and maintaining operational and configuration standards. Research options when anomalies occur and choose best course of action
- Schedule maintenance changes to reduce operational risk
- Participate in project work in cross-functional teams; lead technical team within a project and provide input to design efforts
- Provide training to less experienced staff
- Complete evening responsibilities as scheduled
- Initiate, create, and document procedures for maintenance tasks and other needs to serve as a reference source
- Use tools to help automate processes and make systems more efficient, manageable, available, and secure
- Provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues; resolve problems within established practices
- Participate in and support capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with Engineering and Architecture departments
- Completes activities related to larger and/or more complex installations, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure
- Ensures system hardware, operating systems, software systems and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff and partners
Education and Experience Required:
- Minimum of 6 years' higher education and/or work experience
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in technology-related field
- Experience using ElasticSearch AI/ML functionality
- Certifications or special training in related technologies
- Experience programming using a high-level language (Python, PowerShell, JavaScript)
- Experience programming websites using common web stack components (HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL)
- 3-5 years experience with development and automation tools and platforms (gitlab, ansible, servicenow, etc..)
- 2+ years programming and supporting API interfaces
- Good understanding of log analysis and anomaly detection
- Experience configuring automation and data visualization platforms using standard data interchange formats like YML and JSON
- 2+ years working with ElasticSearch platforms
- Full understanding of ElasticSearch configurations and components
- Experience building ElasticSearch pipelines and log ingestion parsing
- Full understanding of ElasticSearch index maintenance and discovery
- Prior experience reading and digesting technical information
- Detail-oriented
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Prior experience interpreting and/or discussing terminology or concepts not familiar to many people with others
- Strong customer focus, including ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
- Understanding of monitoring concepts
- Understanding of typical infrastructure components which should be monitored to produce useful metrics and thresholds for alert creation
- Experience configuring and administering monitoring software platforms
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $90,855.45 - $151,425.75 Annual (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
