General Summary:
The classroom Teaching Assistant provides assistance to the classroom teacher within all aspects of the academic program. The Teaching Assistant interacts in a daily basis with students, teachers, adjunct faculty, and residential staff and is an integral part of the classroom organization and structure.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Assist in the Fine Arts Instruction for elementary through high-school aged students;
- Design, prepare and implement lessons in coordination with the classroom teacher;
- Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents;
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, individual plan meetings, or clinically based meetings on an ongoing basis;
- Work with classroom teacher to establish and maintain safe and efficient classroom routines;
- Document student progress;
- Collaborate with educational staff to develop innovative and thoughtful curriculum that meets the needs of the students currently enrolled;
- Assist the teacher by completing tasks outside of the classroom such as xeroxing and filing;
- Complete any other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or Art Education
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and other forms of visual art
- Illinois Type 39 Substitute Teaching Certificate or commensurate;
- Ability to relate to special needs students in a constructive and therapeutic manner;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Capacity to cooperate effectively with school team;
Mental Demands:
- Capacity to problem solve, and exhibit patience throughout the day;
- Capacity to multi-task in order to meet the needs of more than one student, if necessary;
- Strong interest in academics across the curriculum;
- Understanding of the rules of confidentiality
