Job Summary:
In the absence of instructional and/or support staff at Mama Lere Hearing School (MLHS), the substitute teacher will provide educational services and supports in a classroom as assigned, and perform duties usually required of absent staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the full-time staff in a manner consistent with compliance requirements, medical center policies, and TN Department of Education standards.
• Creates and maintains an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
• Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom. Is familiar with emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned; procedures for addressing disciplinary problems; and school procedures and regulations.
• Maintains a clean, safe, orderly classroom environment which contributes to the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children.
• Monitors classroom and playground for cleanliness and safety. Cleans classrooms according to established policies. Complies with Center cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
• Arrives punctually for work to maintain appropriate adult-child ratios.
• Monitors clean-up times and transitions to assure the safety and security of all children.
• Positions self in classroom and on playground to interact with and guide children.
• Provide basic care for children such as feeding, personal hygiene, snack/lunch, rest/nap time, and first aid/safety.
