Job Summary (2-3 sentences describing job purpose): Provides support services and direct instruction to meet the needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: List, in the order of importance or time spent, the essential duties/tasks performed by the position. Job Duty/Resp. 1:
Provides regularly scheduled direct instruction in the development of auditory skill, speech and language skills and self-advocacy skills that align with district standards
Job Duty/Resp. 2:
Provides collaboration, consultation and in-service training to school staff regarding, but not limited to, the impact of hearing loss on academic progress, classroom acoustics, hearing aids, Hearing Assistive Technology and hearing evaluations
Job Duty/Resp. 3:
Develops and implements compliant IEPs, provides assistance to general and exceptional education teachers and staff working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and manages a caseload of diverse learners from ages 3 to 22, including students who may have additional disabilities
Job Duty/Resp. 4:
Monitors and evaluates student academic progress using formal and informal measures and provides regular progress reports to school staff and parents.
Job Duty/Resp. 5:
Maintains knowledge of grade level curriculum requirements and develops strategies with classroom teachers to effectively enable the students to access the curriculum
Job Duty/Resp. 6:
Remains current in technological advances, understanding and monitoring the use of all hearing assistive technology and equipment, personal and district-provided, and technical devices and serves as a resource to school staff, parents and students.
Job Duty/Resp. 7:
Updates skills necessary to complete job requirements, i.e. sign language skills and maintain licensure.
Job Duty/Resp. 8:
Completes district and state mandated trainings within required timelines
Job Duty/Resp. 9:
Demonstrates knowledge of the differences between IEPs and 504 plans, attends 504 meetings as required and provides support to school staff and students as stated in each document
Job Duty/Resp. 10:
Fosters emotional well-being and encourages social interaction with hearing peers within the school community. Provides opportunities, where possible, for social interaction among peers with hearing loss.
Job Duty/Resp. 11:
Assists in the development of student transition plans, programs, and goals for the purpose of supporting the student transition from one school to another and/post-high school and developing students' vocational skills. Maintains a working knowledge of school and community resources available to students and parents.

Education and Experience Requirements
Education (training/degree): Bachelors' degree in Education of the Deaf/hard of Hearing
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: Current Tennessee Department of Education licensure/certification in Education of Students with Hearing loss
Experience:
Skills Required: knowledge and experience of speech and language development as impacted by hearing loss: understanding of functioning of hearing aids, cochlear implants, hearing assistive technology, working knowledge of audiograms/audiological evaluations; and ability to modify curricula to meet students' needs are required. Knowledge of sign language is preferred.

Kronos Set Up Data:
Meal Deduction - Most Bransford office and district level employee have a meal deduction. They are scheduled 8.5 hours per day and get an hour lunch. Itinerants and retirees get a 30 minute lunch period and therefore do not have a meal deduction. All school based employees will not have a meal deduction. No Meal Deduction
Travel - Itinerant non-exempt employees who travel will be using the time clock differently than others and are paid for travel time between work locations. Itinerant Employee that travels daily from location to location
Compensatory Time vs. Overtime (Support Non-Exempt Employees only) - Does this department have overtime budgeted, i.e. Maintenance, Transportation, Food Service. If not, employees accrue comp time only. Exempt Employee - can not accrue comp or overtime

Physical Demands:
