JOB TITLE: Early Literacy Instructional Coach Grades K-2 REPORTS TO: Site Administrator/Director of Instructional Support EVALUATED BY: Site Administrator/Director of Instructional Support JOB SUMMARY:Coach and support teachers in the implementation of Early Literacy best practice guided by the Science of Reading. The coach partners with educators in his/her building for the purpose of improving instructional practices. In order to maximize educational effectiveness and student achievement, an Instructional Coach provides both immediate feedback and planned professional development that is aligned with building and district-level goals and grounded in day-to-day teaching practice.

QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION:A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institutionHolds and maintains an appropriate license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of OregonA minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in primary/elementary gradesAbility to pass a background check and criminal justice fingerprintingKnowledge of Oregon's Early Literacy FrameworkInstructional skills and knowledge base in Early Literacy components, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehensionSolid foundational knowledge of the Science of Reading and how it applies to Early Literacy instructionEffectively maintain and practice the state-adopted Model Core Teaching Standards (OAR 581-022-1724)Demonstrates a very good command of the oral and written English languageAbility to effectively work and communicate with teachers and administrators related to the jobMaintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patronsAbility to schedule trainings, meetings, and events, gather, collate and classify data, and use job related equipmentFlexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, analyze data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using standardized methodsAbility is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups; work with data of varied types and purposes, and utilize specific job-related equipment.Ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with othersExperience supporting dual-language learnings a plusPerform physical requirements which may include:Moderate degree of physical staminaFrequent standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting/pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs.Repetitive movement of reaching overhead, extending, fine motor movement of hands and wristAbility to use a telephone, computer, projector, and other office equipmentAbility to make frequent trips to and from locations throughout the school building and groundsExpertise and demonstrated capacity to train educators in best practice in Early Literacy ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. Leverage knowledge of the science of reading and evidence-based practices to support educators in maximizing student learningCoach teachers on the implementation of the reading/language arts curriculumPartner with leadership to support school and district-wide literacy goals Act as a liaison between teachers and administrators that communicates the professional development needs and other supports that are needed in the classroomsCoach teachers in using assessment data to design instruction to meet students' diverse needsModel the use of digital technology that is embedded in, or supplemental to the core curriculumCollaborate with teachers to demonstrate the usage of STAR assessment data, formative and unit assessments, curriculum and Common Core State Standards, to support, design, and develop instructional strategies and assessments to impact student outcomesSupport teachers through coaching cycles on an individual, grade level or department basisModel use of innovative tools and instructional strategies to enhance instruction via co-planning, co-teaching, and in-class coachingSupport teachers in their understanding of the state standards and alignment of curriculum with the state standards for Early Literacy Organize peer observations for the professional development of all educatorsAssist with the development, implementation and maintenance of curriculum mapsConduct daily observations, coaching, modeling and/or co-teaching in classroomsCollaborate with district teachers and administrators to align curriculum and instructional priorities K-12Work collaboratively with other Instructional Coaches, principals, and district administrators to meet district goals as defined in the strategic planResearch and support best practices for district implementation of an Instructional Coaching model that provides ongoing professional development in buildings, and in classrooms, every dayWork collaboratively to develop instructional practices that are viable and guaranteed in all ASD classroomsUtilize best practices to design, implement and evaluate professional development activities delivered to ASD teaching staffParticipate in and present at school staff meetings and district-level professional development sessionsAct as the mentor for new staff in the buildingCoach teachers in effective practices for differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all studentsCoach and model effective engagement strategies for English language learnersDesign Early Literacy and Constructing Meaning professional development on a regular basis - with follow up and co-teaching to ensure implementation in classroomsAttend coaching training as part of the Instructional Coach NetworkOther duties as assignedPOSITION BEGINS: August 2024SALARY RANGE: Per contract on the district websiteCLOSING DATE: Open Until FilledFOR INFORMATION CONTACT:Stephanie Sparks503-325-6441ssparks@astoriak12.org ONLINE APPLICATION SUBMIT: Note: Application must include the following (via upload to TalentEd Recruit & Hire)Cover LetterResumeTwo current letters of recommendation TalentEd Recruit & Hirewww.astoriak12.or.us http://www.astoriak12.or.us
