Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university, Masters preferred.
Special Education Certificate, required
Reading specialization preferred
Training in Dyslexia Intervention Program
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Four plus years of experience teaching reading preferred
Primary Purpose:
Provide dyslexia intervention to identified students and conduct dyslexia assessments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide dyslexia intervention to identified students.
  2. Participate in MTSS, Section 504, and ARD committees to collaboratively make decisions about dyslexia.
  3. Attend on-going staff development in the area of reading intervention.
  4. Attend dyslexia teacher meetings.
  5. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  6. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  7. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and IEPs.
  8. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and community members.
  10. Ability to communicate the instructional program and student progress to parents.
  11. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  12. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  13. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
  14. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required at home campus.
  15. Articulate the district's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  16. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
  17. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent Involvement.
  18. Perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate instruction.
  19. Collaborate with Special Education case managers on eligible students.
  20. Ability to adhere to local, state and federal guidelines in the delivery of service to eligible students.
  21. Maintain schedule and documentation of students served.
  22. SHARS duties as assigned.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:
Personal computer, copier, printer, laminator, Adaptive equipment, assistive technology including voice output devices, and technology teaching tools (i.e, SMART Board)
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress, Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof.
