Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Foster a positive classroom environment that will allow student learning, expression, and safety
- Follow social skills lessons provided by Social Motion to teach group social skills in the afterschool program
- Utilize basic behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons
- Understand and know how the Behavior Skills Training model is incorporated in the social skills lessons
- Coach students’ social interactions during weekly facilitated game time
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
- Complete Class Communication Forms weekly for each student and distribute to parents after each class
- Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration any attendance concerns
- Know emergency procedures and be prepared to supervise students during such emergencies (fire, natural disaster, terroristic threats, etc.)
- Communicate with the Education Director and parents regarding student’s progress
- Confer with Education Director regarding any behavioral or disciplinary concerns
- Organize and plan for monthly student outings at various community venues
- Communicate with parents information regarding class outings and events
- Facilitate social interaction among students during monthly class outings
- Take photos and videos of classroom activities in accordance with Social Motion guidelines
- Supervise and mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students
- Master’s Degree in education, psychology, human development or related fields (strongly preferred)
- Have a valid Texas teaching certificate (special education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience (Special education preferred) or counseling experience (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of applied behavior analysis and other evidence-based practices for those on the Autism spectrum
- Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.
