Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Valid Texas certificate appropriate for the education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Ability to work effectively with school and community
Experience in providing instruction to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Experience in providing instructional services itinerantly
Primary Purpose:
Provide instructional services to meet the needs of eligible students identified as students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to teacher's job description.
- Adhere to local, state and federal guidelines in the delivery of services to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students.
- Assist in appropriate areas of assessment and evaluation.
- Assist in the interpretation of data.
- Develop educational programs for eligible Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students.
- Complete required local, state and federal forms for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students.
- Assist in general education and/or special education classes when appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with general education and parents/guardians regarding student progress/needs/concerns.
- Serve on an itinerant basis when enrollment of Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students warrants this assignment.
- Assist other school personnel in effectively meeting the needs of Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students.
- Develop standards-based goals and objectives.
- Assess students using expressive and receptive language sampling.
- Maintain professional conduct and attitude with team members and a diverse population of students.
- Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy and ARD documents.
- Prepare appropriate paperwork and attend ARD-IEP meetings for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Maintain all staffing and IEP meeting timelines.
- Assist in maintaining audit folders of Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students.
- Keep current in the field of deaf education and be willing to attend appropriate workshops and training.
Equipment Used:
Personal computer, copier, printer, and fax machine. Adaptive equipment.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards. Daily driving in the district from one campus to another.
