Summer Camp Assistant Teacher
Must consent to a background check and have a valid Driver’s License.
Hours: Monday through Friday of select sessions from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.
PositionSummary: The Summer Camp Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Summer Camp Teacher in leading campers and activities enrolled in the GBHS Critter Camp.
Responsibilities:
- Participate fully in weeklong camp sessions.
- Manage camp resources.
- Report any and all accidents/incidents to the Summer Camp Teacher and Director of Education.
- Maintain a classroom climate that nurtures and supports a learning environment.
- Ensure campers’ safety during activities.
- Monitor and assist with snack and lunch breaks.
- Attend an animal-handling orientation and training session.
- Utilize camp software for attendance and medical/allergies.
- Monitor campers while socializing with shelter animals.
- Speak with parents/guardians of campers about daily activities.
- Reports to the Director of Education.
Qualifications:
- Must have experience with elementary and/or middle school children.
- Expected to be professional at all times.
- Must support and practice imaginative, engaging, and learner-centered education.
- Must practice safe animal-handling skills learned during training.
The sessions we need covered for assistant teachers are: June 3-7, June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, and July 20 – Aug 2. Can be all eight sessions or select sessions.
Compensation: Contract employee at $500 per week.
Work Environment
This work is performed in a high noise level area. Exposure to industrial cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal feces, zoonotic (human to animal) diseases, bites and scratches. Weekend shifts may be required. Safety procedures must be adhered to at all times. Must be able to work with and around animals of all types (cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, etc.). Exposure to conditions such as animal feces, urine, etc. and foul odors. May be exposed to animal dander, parasites and infectious diseases than can be carried and transmitted by animals. Must be able to work in an environment that provides humane euthanasia to animals.
