The Hope Street Family Center (HSFC) was established in 1992 as a community program of California Hospital Medical Center. Original program funding was provided by a research and demonstration grant from the federal Head Start Bureau as a national effort to develop more effective ways to support young children and families.

The Teacher Assistant provides support to the Teacher in carrying out classroom activities facilitating developmental appropriate play activities and maintaining a nurturing classroom learning environment. All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner.
- High school degree and completion of 30 semester units college-level coursework
- AA degree or completion of 60 college-levelsemester units preferred
- A minimum of 1 year experience working in an education or after-school setting with school-aged children from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Interest in and ability to establish supportive relationships with kindergarten through third grade students 2.Ability to function within an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Strong listening and motivational skills
- Knowledge of and comfort in working with children and families from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Experience with mentoring and supervising youth within a recreational or educational setting
- Knowledge of child abuse reporting laws
- Ability to write in a concise, logical, and grammatically correct fashion
- Competency in organizing materials and following though on assigned projects
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaking skills.
