As part of TCEQ's Office of Water, you would contribute to ensuring clean and available water and protecting Texas' water resources.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Awarded bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Chemistry.
- Experience using and handling laboratory equipment.
- Experience using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...
- Review, verify, and validate advanced chemical analytical results generated by staff analysts using LIMS; develop and maintain expertise in analytical methodologies, National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) quality systems, customer specifications, and applicable regulations.
- Analyze complex and varied samples using complex analytical instrumentation such as ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) or ICP-MS (Inductively Couple Plasma-Mass Spectrometer), flow injection / segmented flow analyzers, Fluorometer and Ion Chromatograph.
- Provide training and assistance to laboratory staff.
- Maintain agency data in legally defensible format; ensure compliance with agency and regulatory requirements, quality assurance objectives and TNI standards. Develop and/or review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) involving laboratory analyses and business processes.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science which included 24 semester hours in chemistry from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in a TCEQ chemistry laboratory or with activities directly related to the examples of work performed.
One year (24 semester hours) of graduate study in chemistry may be substituted for each year of the required experience.
One year of full-time experience in the field of Chemist activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Chemist IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Chemist IV series.
