Tax (SALT Practice) Attorney

Ascension Global Staffing and Executive Search is seeking a Tax Attorney for our global top 50 Am Law client. Our client has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a 2nd – 6th year Associate in the U.S. State and Local Tax (SALT) Practice of their Orange County or San Francisco office. Job Requirements:

Candidates must have solid academic credentials from a top law school, strong writing and advocacy skills, and be admitted to the California bar. Interest in federal and state tax controversies is required. Prior government experience, from a state or federal government agency or court, and an LLM in Taxation from a top law school is welcome, but not required. Some property tax experience is preferred.

Practice Summary:

Our client’s multidisciplinary Tax Practice attorneys provide tax planning and advice to clients, including major multinational corporations; large privately-owned businesses; financial institutions; exempt organizations; and private individuals, including high net worth individuals. Given their team’s diverse backgrounds and prior experience, including work in private industry, government, and private practice, they have the capabilities necessary to develop practical legal services to meet the challenges faced by this broad range of clients. They provide their clients with a range of tax services, including U.S., cross-border, and state and local tax advice in connection with both domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions; global business structures; capital markets; fund formation; real estate investment/financing; finance and financial instruments; and dispute resolution and litigation. Additionally, they counsel senior management and business owners on tax issues regarding their personal income, estate, gift, and wealth transfer matters. They work closely with their clients to address the complex challenges of today’s uncertain market – seeking out greater efficiency in tax planning, ensuring compliance with ever-changing tax laws, and coordinating tax decisions from country to country.

Their State & Local Tax Practice offers a complete set of services, including the full range of counseling and controversy services. They counsel clients on transactional planning, tax-advantaged business restructuring, audit defense and representation in state and local administrative proceedings, appeals all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, and large-scale multi-jurisdictional litigation. Our client is unique among national State and Local Tax practices because they also regularly partner with their firm’s nationally-recognized Government Law and Policy Practice to help clients achieve results in the legislature as well.

The expected annualized base salary range for this position is $225,000 to $350,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
