Unclassified Position in the Office of the Tax Assessor
THIS RECRUITMENT WILL ALSO BE USED TO FILL TEMPORARY AND PART-TIME POSITIONS.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: None.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

The examination will consist of a review of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as eligible. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform well-defined administrative, customer service and fiscal support duties in support of Tax Assessor functions. Responsibilities include providing information to people by phone and walk-ins, accepting and verifying applications and forms, and performing cashiering and data entry duties.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provides customer service by phone or in person: answers calls and assists or refers to appropriate department or individual; responds to customer inquiries; researches required information; initiates follow-up calls as necessary; assists individuals with completion of paperwork; and produces logs of calls and walk-in assistance.
Receives and verifies tax forms filed by general public and property owners: receives and verifies accuracy of basic and special exemption applications; verifies age, disability, service, and/or income requirements of applicant; determines and applies appropriate exemption codes; attaches other required documentation to application; and maintains digital files.
Performs data entry for a variety of tax related matters: verifies, enters, corrects, or updates exemption codes, address changes, ownership changes, protest changes, or other items in accordance with tax law, regulation and guidelines.
Processes mail: picks-up incoming mail from in-house post office each morning; date stamps received mail and routes to appropriate section; stuff envelopes or receives processed out-going mail and delivers to in-house post office each afternoon.
Researches and resolves exemption related problems: receives request for assistance and/or information in writing, over the phone or in person; may walk taxpayers through department website in an effort to assist with online services; and provides information and directs to appropriate resources.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable tax-related laws, regulations, guidelines and deadlines; and attends training sessions as required.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
