Mission
The Tax Specialist is responsible for supporting Obsidian HR in its pursuit of continued compliance with Federal, State and local tax regulations. The Tax Specialist will support our clients with timely and accurate filings and will support our internal teams with analysis and research. This person will be recognized as a go-to resource for tax and compliance.

- 100% Timely, accurate client responses (measured as zero overdue cases and clean queues)
- Clean audits of tax compliance issues
- On time, accurate completion of daily updates, monthly journal entries, and recons
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance
- Resolves payroll tax related notices & client inquiries by contacting government agencies for clarification and tax issue resolution
- Ensures all PEO & HRO tax ids are up to date and SUI rates are up to date
- Assist implementation team in collecting tax related information
- Assist in resolving payroll tax related cases
- Assist in any payroll tax related questions, updates, and tasks
- Assist with research for new tax issues
- Audits tax and system setup to ensure tax accuracy and compliance
- Manage all state reporting (weekly, monthly, annual updates)
- Tax Filings and Payments
- Assist in all tax filing and payment tasks related to payroll taxes
- Assist in GL entries related to payroll taxes, daily journal entries, and support with accounting recons
- Tax Process
- Create and document new/updated processes as needed
- Ensure updated and accurate tracking for data and project status for internal projects and ongoing projects with third party partners

Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in payroll and/or payroll tax (Required)
- Multi-state payroll and/or tax compliance (Required)
- Prior experience in PEO, PRISM HR or iSolved (Preferred)
