OVERVIEW: The Tank Car Maintenance Lead utilizes mechanical knowledge, technical expertise, and logistics experience to coordinate maintenance activities within the Tank Car rail fleet improving process safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency of the Logistics Team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains all relevant certifications including NDT Level II, Quality Assurance Program, Qualification & Maintenance of Tank Cars, HAZMAT, DOT, etc.
• Owns the Logistics Quality Procedures and ensures they are reviewed and updated in compliance with AAR's M-1002 and M-1003 Standard and Amy's Quality Assurance Program Manual for AAR M1003 Certification. 
• Develops and maintains up-to-date Tank Car Maintenance procedures and checklists.
• Monitors day-to-day Tank Car Maintenance processes for safe execution, environmental compliance, critical operating variables, and expenses. 
• Manages a comprehensive list of AmSty Tank Car fleet, Tank Car drawings, certificates of construction (COC), and parts.
• Documents and communicates any maintenance issues discovered on customer-owned cars to the Logistics Technical Advisor / Supervisor and customer service representative.
• Works with Warehouse Coordinator and utilizes SAP to ensure appropriate stock of parts and tools needed for rail maintenance in the warehouse and Tank Car loading area.
• Ensures all rail maintenance tools - torque wrenches, loading adapters, etc. - are stored properly, in good working condition, and within their defined calibration date to ensure conformance with AmSty's Quality Assurance Manual.
• Evaluates all bad order car reports submitted by Logistics Technicians, assign priority, and facilitate on-site repair.
• Serves as a contact in Tank Car-related Root Cause Investigations and failure analyses.
• Maintains a Tank Car status report issued to Site Logistics Technical Advisor / Supervisor, Site Logistics Manager, and Rail Group located at headquarters.
• Communicates with, schedules, and tracks performance metrics for Mobile Repair Units as needed.
• Collaborates with the Rail Planner, Logistics Safety, and Compliance Manager on any changes to Tank Car regulations including AAR, FRA, TCC, and DOT.
• Develops and maintains an effective training program for Tank Car Maintenance, performing assessments to develop Logistics Technicians' skills and knowledge.
• Serves as the Logistics contact for the Operations Systems Coordinator on technology platforms, such as eSOMS, ATR, and ATR Mobiles, reporting metrics as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Tank Car loading and/or maintenance

• Works outside, year-round under various weather conditions.
• Stands and walks for extended periods of time.
• Requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, rapid work pace, etc.
• Must be willing and able to wear an air-purifying respirator and SCBA.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.
• Must be willing and able to work in tight, enclosed, or confined spaces. 
• SAP and Excel knowledge preferred.
