What You'll Do
KBR is looking for highly motivated rising Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students seeking science, engineering and software development opportunities that provide challenging and meaningful work experience to be a part of our 2024 Intern class.
With several of our Military Space customers we are seeing more requests for utilizing Edge Computing for tactical systems to process and/or provide a faster tactical picture for the customer. Many commercial systems could fit the processing and storage requirements of what the customer is looking for but until this point, we have not identified the best candidates out of the possible pool of providers. The purpose of this internship project will be to research various Edge Computing offerings, create a list of use-cases these offerings would fit, and produce a working prototype based on the research displaying the value these systems can provide to the NSS customer.
As a National Security Solutions Intern, you will:
  • Research various Edge Computing offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and any other providers identified during the research phase.
  • After understanding the offerings and capabilities these systems can provide, create a write-up of current and possible future use-cases these systems could be used to fill.
  • Pick the most cost-efficient offering, rent/buy the hardware, and create a working prototype based on the mentors and intern's inputs which will show off the capabilities and value that can be provided to the customer.

Selected interns for this paid opportunity will be provided with the opportunity to mentor with experienced professionals, gain experience and establish a name for themselves in this high demand career field.
Anticipated Skill Set:
  • Computer science software programming experience with Python, Java, RUSH, GO, Node.js and/or C/C++
  • Experience in Cloud Computing and Systems Engineering
  • Experience with hardware-software interfaces.
  • Comfortable with documenting plans/reports and results in Word or PowerPoint
  • Major field of study: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineers.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: Average 40 hours per week.
BASIC COMPENSATION:
  • $19.00 - $31.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications

Requirement:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must pass a Security Pre-Screen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
