This position applies technical expertise towards software, hardware and systems solutions of complex technical problems, and provide solutions that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed with some direction and latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
The Systems Engineer is responsible for contributing to the development of cutting edge products used in the medical field. Specific tasks include:
• Supporting various initiatives within Release Product Management, such as supply chain improvements, analysis and determination of critical component replacement, DHF remediation, and CAPA support.
• Designing, developing, testing and documenting software, hardware, and system components and applications.
• Assisting in the definition and development of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture.
  • Assisting in the analysis and modeling of identified design solutions to ensure fulfillment of needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture.
  • Assisting in planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts.
  • Providing leadership in identifying and addressing technical risks, product hazards and failure analysis.
  • Providing clinical knowledge of surgical procedures and techniques.
  • Providing subject matter knowledge of the system and its components to internal and cross-business development teams.
  • Supporting and troubleshooting system component integration.
  • Providing technical assistance in the support and maintenance of existing products.

• Ensuring adherence to Medtronic and other quality standards including design procedures and compliance requirements.
• Interfacing with all project team members including engineering (mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and test), quality, regulatory, marketing, technical communications, end users, technical support, production, and suppliers.
• Supporting labs and surgical evaluations of products in addition to representing the company at industry trade shows and customer sites.
• Participating in and identifying on-going professional development activities.
• Assisting in the identification and implementation of process improvements.
• Willingness and ability to assume increased responsibility.
• Organizing, estimating, scheduling, resourcing, and completing project milestones.
• Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Travel requirement: less than 25%
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Nice to Have
• Knowledge of software, hardware, or system design, development, troubleshooting and test practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and directly contribute to its success.
• Experience in the medical device industry and/or surgical techniques.
• Experience in Systems Engineering as related to stakeholder needs definition, creation of use case workflows, requirements definition and decomposition, functional architecture, system modeling, and system design.
• Experience planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams.
• Experience with software design, algorithm design, GUI design, and iterative software development practices.
• Familiarity and experience working with Matlab, Linux, C++, or scripting languages.
• Experience with mechanical and/or electrical design, mechanical/electrical drawings, tolerance analysis, and computer-aided design (CAD).
• Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions.
• Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas.
• Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of the state-of-the-art
• Project management skills including leading a project team as well as planning and estimation of tasks, milestones, resources, and budget.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
