Job Description
The Surface Warfare Engineering Facility (SWEF) Systems Engineer (SE) is a member of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Port Hueneme Division (PHD) team that develops, operates, and sustains systems and networks that replicate a surface combatant through the integration of tactical and virtual elements of the combat system. The SWEF SE develops and/or understands the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) integrated architecture, surface combatant combat system architecture, and range instrumentation to collectively realizes the Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) capabilities for training and testing requirements. The SWEF SE also plans, prepares, and operates and/or directs the operation of NCTE and virtual combat systems at SWEF and participating organizations, sites, and participants. Sustainment includes but is not limited to troubleshoot system outages; coordinate with various agencies to maximize circuit readiness and minimize downtime; notify senior program personnel when anomalies or outages occur; qualify on all applicable equipment; conduct preventive maintenance as required; review and update Standard Operating Procedures as required; act as System Administrator performing scans and implementing required STIGs and patches.
Essential Job Responsibilities
• Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
• Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
• Advanced Technical Certifications including knowledge of virtualization, networking, storage and compute server platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2013
• Experience with Windows Servers 2008/2012 and Windows 10
• Experience with Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guidelines
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read and digest technical information
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems
• Ability to visualize overall view of systems and conceptualize and document creative solutions
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with VMware technologies a plus
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
Preferred Requirements
• Strong background in communications; fiber optics; electrical/electronic components; generators; AC/DC and high/low voltage theory and application.
• Thorough knowledge of the installation and maintenance of electrical/electronic components; working knowledge of Key Management Infrastructure.
• Knowledge of surface combatant weapon and combat systems.
• Experience with Fleet operations including surface combatant weapon and combat systems.
