Job Description
The primary objective for this project is to augment the Information Technology Department with a System Administrator who will provide expert technical consulting services within the Infrastructure and Cybersecurity team.
2.System Administrator Required Qualifications & Skills
- Have and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- A degree in a Technology field of study etc. is preferred.
- 5 or more years of IT and business/industry work experience, including planning, design, deployment, and ongoing day-to-day support of technology solutions.
- Experience with exposure to multiple diverse technologies and processing environments.
- Possess specialized technical skills and have a clear understanding of District's business processes, technology standards, and support procedures.
- Possess the functional, technical, analytical, and configuration skills required to perform and make significant changes to existing systems and implement new solutions.
- Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery.
- The System Administrator must have the following knowledge & experience:
- Microsoft management tools, including Intune and SCCM
- Windows & Office365 administration tools
- Microsoft Azure cloud administration tools
- Microsoft Azure VMware Solution (AVS) or VMware ESXi, vSphere, and NSX-T is ideal.
- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts
3.Scope of Services
- The Systems Administrator reports to the Manager, Infrastructure & Cybersecurity and is responsible for the designing, planning, deployment, and day-to-day administration of systems and data center infrastructure for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).
- The System Administrator's role is to manage and tune cloud-hosted infrastructure systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- The System Administrator may be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Examples of Essential Functions:
- Configure, deploy, monitor, and support client software using Microsoft's modern management platforms, including Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), Cloud Management Gateway, Windows Autopilot, Intune, and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
- Develop, configure, and maintain groups, policies, shared resources, permissions, domains, and trust relationships within hybrid Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, and other enterprise on-premises and cloud solutions.
- Perform systems administration tasks in the management of Azure VMware Solution (AVS) virtualized infrastructure, built on VMware vCenter and NSX-T technology.
- Configure, monitor, and perform routine maintenance of system backup and recovery software and services, including backup programs for on-premises and cloud-hosted data.
- Act as liaison with internal and external customers in support of Systems related needs and requirements.
Examples of Duties:
- Provide IT support for cloud computer systems and services.
- Identify, investigate, diagnose, resolve, and report on application and configuration issues on cloud servers and other resources. Escalate incidents as necessary.
- Document and maintain procedures for system administration and maintenance.
- Perform and test routine system backups and restores.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software and configuration improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Reporting Structure & Daily Responsibilities for the System Administrator
- System Administrator shall report to and take direction from the District's IT Manager.
- When System Administrator is onsite, shall work closely with the District's IT Manager and Project Manager (PM) to plan the expected work for each assignment and the final list of deliverables.
- System Administrator shall back up all work products at the end of each workday onto a District designated storage area/device. Appropriate access to District networks will be provided.
- System Administrator assigned to work on District projects are responsible for the proper care of facilities and equipment made available to them throughout the term of the contract.
