Established in 2005, LoveWorks Academy is a K-8 public charter school focused on providing access to arts education to all students. Our school is community driven by the love of arts, life-long personalized academic empowerment, and overall community uplift. Our students are more than pupils! At LoveWorks Academy, we make no excuses and maintain the highest standards with a clear focus on constant progression. We currently serve roughly 150 students from the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.

Position Purpose: The Instructional Coach is the leader that provides support for teachers in accordance with state law and code as well as supporting school policy through collaboration with other members of the core leadership team. Key areas of responsibility include instructional leadership, project coordination and organizational standards.

Organization Relationships: This position reports directly to the Executive Director and will interact on a regular basis with other staff, teachers, and external stakeholders. This position works cooperatively with other school staff.

Principal Accountabilities/Essential Functions:

  • Participate in school Instructional Coach training
  • Facilitates a compatible working relationship with teachers by discussing expectations and arriving at mutual understandings about how to work cooperatively.
  • Assesses the background of the teacher and provides, in cooperation with the Executive Director and other appropriate personnel, an amount of support indicated by this background and orients teachers to the district/school policies, procedures and expectations.
  • Complete a pre/post observation meeting for at least 30 minutes once each semester and complete an hour observation of each teacher on the team once each semester.
  • Model effective, culturally responsive teaching techniques in the classroom and demonstrate to teachers.
  • Accessible for on-going informal support and consultation.
  • Maintain records/logs of activities related to the mentoring of the teachers and provide feedback to the Executive Director about the mentoring process.
  • Develop relationships with community members and seek mentors and/or resources from the community (students, parents, business partners) to aid in meeting the goals of the School Improvement Plan.
  • Model or co-teach lessons.
  • Assess student learning.
  • Provide academic interventions for struggling students.
  • Analyze student data and provide support in analyzing student data.
  • Model effective, rigorous, research-based and culturally responsive teaching techniques in the classroom and demonstrate to teachers.
  • Communicate with families through conferences, newsletters, and/or by telephone (including other pathways such as Class Dojo, etc.).
  • Maintain and develop the collaborative community approach with all team members.
  • Provide daily instructional support to all teachers including but not limited to:
    • Coaching sessions in the classroom,
    • Written and verbal feedback
    • Intellectual preparation meetings,
    • Provide resources to supplement curriculum, and
    • Give feedback on lesson plans.
  • Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.
  • Provide training to teachers based on Professional Development Plan and teacher individual needs.
  • Assist teachers with goal setting and self-reflection procedures as a part of the evaluation process.
  • Complete 2 formal observations for each teacher, including a 30 minute pre and post meeting.
  • Manage all online learning programs, including Google Classroom and others.
  • Accessible for on-going informal support, resources and collaboration.
  • Design and/or identify best internal formative and summative assessments.
  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum
  • Encourage ongoing self-reflection and professional growth for all teachers.
  • As the Assistant District Assessment Coordinator,
    • Support management of all testing systems - NWEA, i-Ready, WIDA, ACCESS, MCAs, etc.
    • Train all staff on assessment procedures and test security.
  • Meet with the Executive Director as necessary to discuss instruction, the needs of teachers, assessment data and other matters.
  • Partner with school leaders on maintaining integrity and accuracy of student records, including maintenance and tracking of attendance and retention.
  • Respond to and resolve routine internal and external inquiries with parents, employees and school organizations.
  • Support, in coordination with others, annual audits, and other requested audits from state, federal or local authorities.
  • Provide backup support to other office administrators during vacations, sick days and other unplanned needs.
  • Attend all required and assigned meetings and training.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Possesses a MN teaching license
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Ability and willingness to work an extended schedule
  • Expresses a willingness to work with beginning teachers.
  • Outstanding performance and demonstrates expertise in classroom teaching and instructional planning as well as effectiveness in student management.
  • Displays evidence of continued professional growth throughout teaching career.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Current driver's license along with a good driving record and valid insurance, if applicable.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a closely-related field,
  • Preference will be given to those with Master's degrees in education.
  • Minnesota Principal/administration license (preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching/curriculum experience


Language Skills:

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to use personal computer and standard business and other work related software with minimal instruction.


Mathematical Ability:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and communicate student data from various sources.

Mental Essential Functions and Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to handle high stress situations
  • Excellent analytical, research, deductive reasoning and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work and prioritize independently with the capacity to collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply newly acquired skills and knowledge.
