Summary: Performs responsible duties in the operation of a centralized switchboard and paging system in a hospital environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent.
Experience: One year's experience in clerical or receptionist duties, six months of which shall have included experience operating a switchboard.
License/Certification: None required.
Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and standardized duties involving the operation of a large switchboard and paging system on an assigned shift, including the tracking of toll calls and some receptionist duties.
- Gives routine information regarding the work of a division or location of an office or employee; receives callers from the Health and Human Services "800" number 24 hours a day as well as receive and direct calls Units / Departments.
- Calls Units / Departments or other offices to determine whether or not physicians or other personnel are on duty.
- Receives and is responsible for registered mail, special delivery mail and telegrams.
- Makes frequent contacts with the general public and state employees requiring the answering of routine inquiries, referring the more difficult questions to a supervisor. Screens and signs in visitors. Receives and relays phone messages for employees / offices as assigned.

Complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures by:
- Performing accountabilities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Communicating with supervisor’s issues related to workplace safety (i.e., ergonomics, body mechanics, environment, equipment...).
- Reporting on the job injuries to supervisor IMMEDIATELY.
- Attending training programs, as appropriate.
