· Ensure consistent implementation of grower management practices in the barns, including sound bio-security protocols, establishment of proper pig environment, placement and startup, monitoring herd health, and administering medications.
· Regular monitoring and maintenance of feed system.
· Maintaining daily care records and other observations in Excel on barn computer.
· Serves as first responder to feed system issues and unit alarms that can occur any time of the day or night.
· Assists research team with data collection, which includes weighing whole pens of pigs, individual weighing, holding pigs for blood collection, and observational scores, such as scouring or tail biting.
· Assist with receiving and allocation of pigs to start trials.
· Marking, tattooing and load out of market pigs.
· Maintain facility cleanliness, both inside and outside. (Mowing, weeding, laundry, sweeping/mopping, etc.)
· Washes barns between groups of pigs and cleans alleyways and working facilities after moving pigs.
· Facility cleanup and preparation for next turn of pigs (pressure washing, disinfection, heat lamp and mat placement, etc.
· Work alternating holidays and weekends.
