Job description

Position Summary:

This student is assigned to a single course for a single term. (For example, BIBNT500 Spring 2023). CTAs assist the instructor in managing classroom technology before and during class sessions. This may involve pre-session start-up procedures; real-time tasks in a Teams meeting; redirecting classroom cameras at the instructor's request; basic troubleshooting in response to issues; and so on. CTAs may begin their appointment at any time during the term, and not only at the term's beginning.

Essential functions and responsibilities:
  • Being available 15 minutes before class sessions begin for pre-session start-up procedures and check-in with instructor
  • Manage real-time tasks as host or co-host during a Microsoft Teams meeting.
  • Managing classroom technology at the instructor's request (for example: redirecting point-and-zoom cameras via remote control; or, taking cues to advance a presentation in progress; etc.).
  • Basic troubleshooting as the student's familiarity with the technology permits. This may also include communicating with the Technology Department, starting "tickets" via email, etc.
  • Related duties as asked, as relevant to the above responsibilities.


Success factors/job competencies:
  • Required competencies:
  • Familiarity with such desktop/laptop procedures as downloading attachments and knowing their location in the computer's file structure, or finding and launching applications.
  • Familiarity with desktop/laptop user folders (Downloads, Documents, Desktop, Applications, etc). Comfort with basic user System Preferences such as Sound, and Displays.
  • Familiarity with using cloud-based services such as OneDrive, Google Docs, or Dropbox.
  • An ability to be trained by us regarding basic classroom technology in our hyflex-equiped classrooms. No prior experience with built-in classroom technology required, but it is welcome.
  • Communication skills to interact with the instructor in planning and accomplishing collaboration.
  • Ability and willingness to work with confidential information.
  • Ability to pay great attention to detail.
  • Preferred competencies:
  • An ideal candidate will be upbeat, friendly, enjoy being around people, be comfortable with diverse populations and able to relate to them and have a sense of humor.
  • An ideal candidate should possess high emotional intelligence, a strong work ethic, and be able to use common sense and good judgment with or without supervision.
  • First year seminarians, work study, and international students are strongly encouraged to apply, but all inquiries are welcome.


Physical demands and work environment:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to navigate the classroom, and reach with hands and arms. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, and manipulate classroom control panels and remote controls. Must be able to sit for periods of time normal to in-person instruction. The individual will regularly be required to communicate professionally in person and through email.
  • Work environment: Employee occasionally may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time but work is primarily performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal, but may increase to moderate noise for larger events. Occasional evening/weekend work.
