Job description

Caliber is seeking a full-time SVP of Investments and Fund Management to join our team in Scottsdale, AZ.
The SVP of Investments and Fund Management reports to the Chief Investment Officer and assists in the evaluation and analysis of long-term asset allocation models, oversight and responsibility of funds assigned, investment due diligence, and adherence to asset allocation model both for real estate equity and fixed income. In addition, this person will assist in new product development, product training, and quarterly fund reporting.
Primary Responsibilities:
Fund Oversight and Management
  • Develop an Annual Business Plan for each assigned fund, which includes identifying and recommending risk mitigation strategies, profitability opportunities, and managing corporate and investor targets. Direct efforts, with the assistance of the CIO, to enact such plans and work closely with senior management as plans are put into place.
  • Manage the fund level reserves to protect the investors' Investments and to promote fund sustainability and profitability through its investment period. This process includes making recommendations to senior management with respect to fund and corporate strategies on the use of fund reserves that materially impact fund sustainability and/or corporate revenues.
  • Manage fund investment results, which includes reviewing long-term projections, asset allocation, losses, and cash distributions on the fund level, which are incorporated into each fund's IRR analysis.
  • Work with Asset Management to ensure that property level performance maximizes returns to the fund(s).
  • Provide superior customer service to investors including participating in the quarterly, annual and tax reporting cycles, answering questions regarding all aspects of a fund's performance and the investor's specific investment results.
  • Work with Wealth Development and National Accounts to execute investor due diligence meetings, portfolio reviews, and other investor presentations.

Strategy Implementation, Financial Analysis, Forecasting, Performance Reporting
  • Assist CIO in tracking and updating the implementation of the Strategic Plan and Annual business plans for the funds and department.
  • Own Caliber inputs and assumptions in broader fund investment models, reporting and forecasting.
  • Own fund forecasting and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of materials and reporting to the Investment Committee.

Investment, Transactions, Capitalization, Partnerships
  • Lead review of analysis and underwriting from Owner perspective of all new fund investments, dispositions, refinancing, and partnerships and implementation of approved initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the CIO on the identification of new investment strategies as part of implementing the Strategic Plan.

Qualifications (required unless otherwise stated):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or related field
  • MBA preferred.
  • 5-7 years minimum experience in a similar, senior leadership role
  • CFP, CFA, CFS, or CMFS is a plus
  • Background in Commercial Real Estate with a focus on Finance and/or Investments
  • Experience in a range of product types, including multifamily, office, industrial, hospitality.
  • Experience in a range of asset types, including development, value-add and core.
  • Knowledge of the Southwest markets is particularly useful.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate finance including underwriting, valuation, and debt and equity structures
  • Able to successfully work in a team-oriented environment and partner with internal colleagues, external partners, and cross-functional groups.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate investment management
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel including building financial models, forecasting tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with real estate-related and property accounting preferred.
  • Comprehensive Office 365 and SharePoint skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use best judgement to work through challenges
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressure
  • Ability to adapt to processes and deal with ambiguity
  • Clear, effective oral and written communication skills are required, must be careful listener and clear communicator.

Physical Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. The employee frequently communicates with internal team members, investors and vendors. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a copy machine and printer. Occasionally moves items up to 50 lbs. for various projects.
