Position Overview

As a Sr. Surveyor/Party Chief for Kiewit, you will play an integral role in establishing and maintaining methods for safe, accurate, and efficient Survey Field Operations. You will have responsibilities over field survey operations and should plan to spend most of your time in the field performing survey field operations.

District Overview

Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects, we typically self-perform a large portion of the work. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, PCCP paving, utilities and more. Responsibilities

Field Survey Operations:

  • Implementing the project survey plan specific to field operations.
  • Oversee the operation with periodic reviews of record keeping, field procedures and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate and legible field notes.
  • Implementing the project survey plan specific to field operations, setting and maintenance of control network, performing layouts, managing crews, and other duties detailed below.
  •  Oversee project survey operations with periodic reviews of record keeping, field procedures, and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed in an efficient and professional manner.
  •  Provide quality leadership, including instructions, motivation, and supervision, to assigned crew and act in a professional manner when dealing with craft, other survey crews, construction management, and other project team members.
  • Keep company and project mission at the forefront while solving problems and creating a quality working environment for team members.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to assigned crew members daily
  • Provide disciplinary measures to assigned crew members as needed, including verbal and written reprimands in accordance and documented with company policy.
  • Evaluate assigned crew's performance and make recommendations to Survey Management on advancement, demotion, and/or termination of personnel as needed.
  • Provide and apply advanced knowledge of construction surveying techniques and processes that align with company values of "Know it, build it, Check it," and not sacrifice quality with shortcuts.
  • Daily responsibilities include obtaining daily survey request assignments, ensuring a complete work pack is provided, upload and download files to the company's online system, create field survey request files and detailed field notes, take and upload photographs, perform layouts in accordance with work plans, perform sanity checks, submit daily progress and delays to Survey Management via email, and other duties as assigned by project leadership.
  • Remain responsible for all survey related company issued equipment and maintenance and company vehicles, including those assigned to Instrument Operators and Rodmen.
  • Complete crew safety and hazard analysis. While everyone is a safety officer and can contribute to LSA's, Toolbox Talks, etc. The Party Chief will be overall accountable for ensuring all paperwork is complete and submitted in accordance with company guidelines and project specific guidelines.
  • Perform continual hazard assessments, enforce company safety standards, and update assigned crew with any changes. Ensure all LSA's are understood by crew members, updated, and completed.
  • Maintain the crew safety binder and obtain daily reminders, incident reports, and other pertinent information to be shared with the field crew.
  • Ensure all crew members have all required PPE, maintain cleanliness and functionality, and request replacement PPE when necessary.
  • Follow all work plans and do not deviate without supervisor approval. If creating a new work plan, ensure it has supervisor approval and follows standard acceptable practice
Qualifications
  • Must be willing to work 50-60 hours per week, along with occasional weekends
  • 8+ years' experience in Construction Survey, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a related field is required
  • Trimble experience is a plus
  • Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to perform calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage)
  • Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
