GBA is seeking a qualified Survey Crew Chief in Lenexa, KS headquarters Office. George Butler Associates Inc. Responsibilities:

• Ten (10) or more years of topographic, highway/roadway projects, construction staking experience preferred
• Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, levels, GPS, and electronic distance-measuring equipment
• Familiar with KDOT or MoDOT survey data collection methods a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Effectively communicate with onsite contractors, engineers, and project owner representatives in the field
• Operate all survey equipment including: Total Station, GPS Data collector (knowledge/experience operating Trimble Access is a plus)
• Collect information needed to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information
• Accurately reduce field notes
• Must be able to work scheduled hours. Travel and out of town stays will be required; may work overtime especially during the construction season
• Delegate survey tasks to other crew members under his/her direct supervision
• May be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools
• Learn and follow surveying methods and standards as required by state and public agencies
• Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA, as-built surveys, and construction staking
• Will oversee field surveys to determine location of right-of-way and other boundaries
• Evaluate survey field notes, evidence, and information
• Restore and upgrade land survey monuments to state and federal standards
• Train individuals in the use of surveying equipment, proper survey methods, and techniques for collecting data
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent degree
• Registered Professional Land Survey (R.P.L.S.) license a plus
• Land Survey In Training (L.S.I.T.) a plus
• Driver's license with clean driving record
• Use of hand tools (hammer, machete, ax, chainsaw, etc.)
• Punctuality - Proven record of punctual attendance
• Basic knowledge of electronic devices
• Attention to detail
• Perform duties in an outdoor environment in various field settings (rural, urban, highways)
• Ability to work outside in a variety of climate situations for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered.
• Occasional out of town travel may be required
• Overtime is occasionally required to accommodate project deadlines
