The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Survey Analyst, Public Opinion Research in the Analytics Department of the ACLU's National office in New York/Remote*.
ACLU Analytics partners with teams across the organization to enable the ACLU to make smart, evidence-based decisions and bring quantitative insights on our issues to the courtroom and the public. Our team's work ranges from social science research for litigation & advocacy, to analysis & reporting for fundraising and engagement, to building and maintaining our data infrastructure. We strive to ensure the ACLU leads by example in the ethical use of data and technology. This includes maintaining our privacy and security standards, pushing for transparent data practices from government and corporate actors, and helping to steward high standards for algorithmic fairness, accountability, and transparency.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Public Opinion Research , the Survey Analyst will be focused on qualitative and quantitative Public Opinion Research projects to inform the way the ACLU approaches fundraising, advocacy, communications, and supporter engagement. This could include survey and question design, data analysis, stakeholder communication, and presentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be part of the Engagement Analytics team, and work with team members across Analytics as well as stakeholders in our Fundraising, Digital, Political Advocacy, Legal, and Communications teams. Below is a sampling of projects you can expect to dive into:
  • Perform quantitative and statistical analysis of Public Opinion survey data
  • Prepare graphs, tables, and other visual presentations of data for written reports and presentations
  • Design questionnaires and write summary reports
  • Compile, analyze and interpret public and syndicated polling data
  • Work with stakeholders in Communications, Digital, Political Advocacy, and other departments to track and report public attitudes related to ACLU and its activities

In addition to:
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Coursework related to statistics, research design, or survey methodology; or demonstrated work experience in similar fields
  • Very strong quantitative, data analysis, and problem solving skills
  • Basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to synthesize quantitative results, visualize data, and summarize findings
  • Commitment to the mission of the ACLU

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in social science (political science, sociology, economics, etc.), statistics, applied public policy or similar field; or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with research methods, including survey design and statistical evaluation of data in a work or academic setting
  • Experience using SPSS, Stata, R or other statistical package
  • Experience using BI tools, like Tableau and Looker

COMPENSATION
The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU's compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $76,469 (Level J), reflective of a position based in New York, NY, where our National offices are headquartered. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
