Job description

SUMMARY
The California Emerging Infections Program (CEIP) is a program administered by Heluna Health. CEIP functions under a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is a collaborative effort involving the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and several local health departments.
Under general direction from the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator, the Surveillance Epidemiologist will support the goal of CEIP to assist local, state, and national efforts to conduct surveillance and applied epidemiologic research in emerging infectious diseases.This position will focus on the HPV-Impact surveillance effort to evaluate the impact of the HPV vaccines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lead the design, development, and coordination of site-specific and/or multi-site sub-projects
  • Perform operational-level analysis to identify and address project issues in the development and maintenance of this surveillance system.
  • Conduct data cleaning and quality improvement efforts
  • Maintain and update SAS codes for reporting and analysis; prepare surveillance data summaries stratifying data by key factors
  • Prepare and disseminate important public health findings in a variety of formats including oral/poster presentation and peer reviewed manuscript publication
  • Maintain Access and SQL-based data management system including the uploading and monitoring of both electronic and paper-based laboratory records
  • Track and manage case reporting and specimens for processing
  • Assist in development and implementation of various related protocols
  • Interact professionally with multiple levels of staff within health departments, healthcare delivery organizations, and provider groups
  • Ensure necessary follow-up, data, and report submission to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Participates in regular HPV-Impact conference calls, conference calls with epidemiology partners at CDPH, health equity efforts, and CDC meetings
  • Perform geocoding of surveillance cases using ARCPro or similar software.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) or related degree.
  • Epidemiology coursework needed with experience in clinical, public health, or research setting

Public Health Experience Requirement
  • Minimum one year experience with surveillance including data collection, data management, or other related activities
  • Minimum one year experience with Microsoft Excel and relational databases for data management
  • Minimum one year of conducting analyses using statistical software (SAS preferred) Basic knowledge and use of data visualization software
