The Surgical Technician works in collaboration with the surgeon and RN to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Surgical Technician must follow aseptic technique procedures and be able to provide equipment and supplies based on patient and surgeon needs. During surgery, the Surgical Technician practices under the direction of the surgeon and surgical nursing staff.
Post-secondary course work in surgical technology, biological sciences, medical assisting or related discipline is preferred. Three years of progressive operating room surgical technician experience is strongly preferred (in lieu of certification). BLS certification is required.
