St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. Job Summary:
SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF THE SURGICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT BY COORDINATING AND MAINTAINING AN EFFICIENT AND COST-EFFECTIVE SURGICAL SCHEDULE. THE SURGICAL SERVICES SCHEDULER ASSISTS WITH COORDINATING REQUESTED EQIPMENT, SUPPLIES AND SERVICES.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- ENSURE PROPER SCHEDULING OF OPERATIVE PROCEDURES AND PREPARATION FOR ACCURACY
- SCHEDULE OR PROCEDURES AND APPOINTMENTS BASED ON THE REQUEST FROM ONLINE INTAKE SYSTEMS (EPIC DEPOT, MEDTEL, IQUEUE, AND ONBASE)
- COPY AND PASTE ALL PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS AND CASE INFORMATION FROM THE ONLINE INTAKE SYSTEM ONTO THE HOSPITAL EHR SYSTEM
- CHECK FOR CASE AMENDMENTS DAILY THROUGHOUT THE DAY TO INSURE CORRECTIONS ARE UPDATED IN EHR SYSTEM PRIOR TO THE SURGERY DATES
- COMPLETES DEPARTMENTAL FILING INTO PATIENTS CHART FROM ONBASE/FAX
- ASSURES APPROPRIATE COORDINATION WITH OTHER HOSPITAL DEPARTMENTS WHEN SURGICAL NEEDS OCCUR
- DISTRIBUTION OF DAILY OPERATING ROOM SCHEDULE GENERATED WITHIN THE HOSPITAL EHR SYSTEM TO OR LEADERSHIP FOR DAILY HUDDLES
- COMPLETES DAILY SURGICAL SCHEDULE AND DISTRIBUTES AS APPROPRIATE AT END OF DAY TO ALL HOSPITAL DEPARTMENTS
- ANSWER CALLS ON A MULT-LINE PHONE SYSTEM FROM SURGEON OFFICES AND CLINICAL TEAMS IN HOSPITAL REGARDING SCHEDULING NEEDS
- ORDER OFFICE SUPPLIES AS NEEDED
- ENSURES ALL THE MEDICAL SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE PATIENTS ARE CHARGED COMPLETELY AND THE RECORDS MAINTAINED
- EVALUATING BILLING/FACTSHEETS, OUTPATIENT CARDS, AND/OR VARIOUS HOSPITAL OR PROCEDURE RECORDS TO CONFIRM CHARGES TO BE BILLED IN A TIMELY FASHION
- COLLABORATE WITH CLINICAL STAFF REGARDING RECORDS AND/OR CHARGES
- COLLABORATE WITH SUPPLY CHAIN/VENDORS REGARDING NEW SUPPLIES/IMPLANTS WITH NO PRICE
- PROCESSES OPERATING ROOM CHARGES AND IMPLANT CHARGES AND RECONCILES THE IMPLANT(S) RECORDED ON PATIENT CHARTS WITH VENDORS INVOICE
- PROCESSES OPERATING ROOM CHARGES AND IMPLANT CHARGES AND RECONCILES THE IMPLANT(S) RECORDED ON PATIENT CHARTS WITH VENDORS INVOICE
- ENSURE EACH PATIENT LOG IS COMPLETE WITH TIME STAMPS, SUPPLIES/IMPLANTS WITH MARKUPS AND SUPPLY PRICING
- ENSURE TO COMPLETE CHARGE POSTING WITHIN 3 DAYS AFTER SURGERY
- RUN DAILY PENDING CHARGE WORKQUEUE TO INSURE ALL LOGS ARE BEING POSTED
- Perform other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information
Working knowledge of medical terminology to include CPT codes and ICD codes
Accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation skills necessary
Proficient computer skills to include working knowledge of Windows based software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
Demonstrate strong customer service skills and has excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and managers.
Ability to work in stressful environment and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple priorities.
