Role Overview:
The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the Operating Room staff has correct, fully functional, sterile Surgical Instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Instrument Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The manner in which an Instrument Tech will perform these duties will be characterized by resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. Techs are expected to build and maintain a comprehensive body of knowledge with respect to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of Surgical Instrumentation. Complies with ISH and Departmental policies.
Essential Functions:
The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.
- Assists in patient transportation and positioning, of patients, as needed.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and services and continuing education.
- Assures instruments and loaner instruments for cases are available, and properly sterilized, for each case. Complies with OR dress code and hand washing.
- Responsible for instrument care and sterilization.
- Responsible for accurate sterilization documentation.
Prerequisite Experience:
- High School Graduate

- National certification through the International Association of Healthcare Service Material Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within one (1) year from the date of hire.
- CPR certification or ability to obtain
