Surgery/Oncology Coodinator

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Perioperative Director, is responsible for assuring that surgical cases are scheduled in an accurate manner using the manual and automated systems, facilitates telephone messages and usage with a high level of service, and assists in medical records management to support an accurate completed medical document. Maintains accurate records associated with the scheduling, and the processing of patient documentation. Under the direction of the supervising physician, arranges referrals, and schedules appointments for Oncology patients including chemotherapy appointments. The Oncology Coordinator will ensure continuity of care and coordination of that care. Able to work under pressure and in situations that demand patience, tact, stamina and endurance.
What You'll Do:

• Schedules all patient special procedures and surgeries as ordered by primary surgeon. 
• Verifies and documents patient insurance information, authorization and pre-authorizations for patient’s surgeries as required by third party payer i.e. Private insurance, Medical and Workers Compensation. Insuring that proper ICD-9 and CPT codes are submitted at time of authorization to insure proper reimbursement.
• Provides Surgery with surgical worksheet for any special equipment/instruments used for surgery.
• Schedules Oncology appointments, referrals, chemotherapy appointments as needed to facilitate care coordination, or assists patients and their families in obtaining referrals to a specific specialist.
• Provide emotional support as necessary and refer to Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse for patient education and nursing issues.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years of healthcare/patient administration preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Spanish-speaking preferred.

Job Information:

• Per diem position, varied shifts.
• Starting wage $22.98 to $24.61 based on qualifications.
