Qualifications
• High school or equivalent (Required)
• Minimum 1+ year experience working with a boarded veterinary surgeon or 3+years working in general surgery and anesthesia
• CVT or VTS candidates preferred. We will help assist a qualified candidate pursue their VTS certification in Surgery or Anesthesia.
• Knowledge and advanced technical skills including but not limited to: venipuncture, IV catheter placement, central line placement, intubation, anesthesia, CPR procedures, chest tube and tracheostomy maintenance, IV fluid administration, and ability to perform advanced techniques such as epidurals and local blocks.

Summary:
The responsibilities of the Surgery Technician Shift Lead include, but are not limited to the following activities:
Assist with day-to-day oversight of the surgery department in a leadership role.
Assist with training new surgical technicians as needed.
Help lead the surgery team by evaluating the surgery schedule and delegating tasks daily.
Oversee operations to keep team members engaged and on task. Provide support where needed.
Assist with various administrative tasks including oversight and creation of surgery estimates, scheduling, admits, and discharges.
Provide support to all technicians and technician assistants in the surgery department
-Partner with doctors and the surgery team in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
- Perform advanced anesthetic monitoring including the use of inhalant anesthesia, injectable anesthesia, drug calculations, use of a ventilator, intubation/ extubation of patients, setup and troubleshooting of machines.
- Prepare various blood and tissue samples for diagnostic testing.
- Accurately take multiple types of radiographs throughout the pre-operative and postoperative process.
- Ability to scrub into 1+ hour surgeries to assist doctors with surgical procedures including soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and arthroscopic surgeries.
- Maintains accurate patient records and anesthetic logs.
- Basic knowledge of medical surgical supplies including orthopedic implants.
- Work collaboratively with Veterinarians and Technicians to ensure an efficient workflow within the department.
- Provide training to other technicians in surgical preparation, processes, and follow up.
- Independently develop anesthetic protocols and calculate and administer medications.
- Maintain surgical equipment and provide recommendations for improvements.

-Able to perform basic sedation (clinical setting).
-Advanced knowledge of anesthesia.
-Ensuring all patients’ charges have been updated and an invoice has been entered accurately.
-Prepping and keeping accurate charts and auditing for completion.
-Prepping surgery areas for procedures.
-Ensuring doctors and techs have been fully rounded at the end of shift and given financial updates as necessary.
-Various cleaning tasks.
-Work well with all team members and ensure that actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
-Attend regular department meetings.
-Check ACV email on a regular basis to ensure timely communication with management and staff.
