Pierce County Surface Water Management (SWM) is recruiting for an internship position during the summer of 2023 to assist the Engineering Services unit in a full-time capacity. You will be working closely with both the engineering staff and inspection field crews assisting them and learning what it takes to complete capital projects. Anticipated Duties:
- Update county stormwater infrastructure inventory lists and mapping
- Scan and record documents using various digital storage programs
- Prepare project-related maps, exhibits and other documents for public purpose
- Assist in responding to inquiries from elected officials and the public.
- Assist in field investigations of infrastructure.
- Assist in Construction Stormwater Pollution Prevention (SWPPP) inspections and documentation of the SWPPP program requirements.
- Assist with engineering design, bidding, and award of public works projects
- Assist with construction administration of public works projects.
- Assist the assigned project managers with various tasks.
- May be called upon to assist other section project managers and staff within Pierce County's Planning and Public Works Department, Surface Water Management Division.
Required Qualifications:
Junior or Senior enrolled in an engineering program at an ABET accredited engineering school with the goal of obtaining a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
Desired Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands
- Solve problems independently with some direction
- Works effectively in a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
- Entry level experience with CAD Technologies, GIS Systems, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and other software applications.
- Attention to details and ability to contribute to a positive work environment
- Demonstrates a drive to achieve goals
- Be able to traverse difficult terrain including steep, muddy, or rocky
ground.
