Be responsible for maintaining all traffic and support equipment. Assist all departmental divisions as needed.
Perform other duties as required. Essential Job Functions PATROL DUTIES Supports the patrols in the city on foot or in an automobile; alternates route and backtracks frequently in order to be at locations least expected. Observes activities and looks for any situation that does not appear normal for the area, time of day, weather conditions, etc.
Operates radio in accordance with FCC and departmental regulations and procedures. TRAFFIC CONTROL Directs traffic at intersections, accident scenes, fire scenes, crime scenes, school crossings and special events or any assigned location. Assists stranded motorists and citizen needs Reports missing or malfunction traffic control devices, street lights and signs EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE Checks all fluid (gas, oil, water, etc.) levels of the vehicle Checks the outside of the vehicle which includes the tires, tire pressure and all lights Checks the interior of the vehicle, back seat, radios, secure truck bed and equipment Reports any equipment that is faulty or shows signs of excessive wear MISCELLANEOUS Keeps uniform and badges, clean and neat Maintains good public relations with citizens; works with merchants and citizens Attends various training classes on job-related subjects Performs animal control duties when necessary Qualifications Possess a valid Driver's License Willing to work overtime, non-standard hours, weekends and holidays.
Willing to attend classes or school for additional training. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Verbal skills to communicate factual information to subordinates, co-workers, supervisors, general public and court personnel. Writing skills to clearly and neatly complete routine forms and reports.
Listening skills to receive dispatched calls, and speak with general public. Driving skills to properly and safely operate vehicle under adverse conditions. Skill to operate vehicle and department radios.
Knowledge of the city, its buildings and road system. Knowledge of city ordinances and court procedure. Knowledge of first aid.
Knowledge of disaster and emergency procedure. Knowledge of city and department rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action.

Ability to remember names, faces and details of incidents. Education and Work Experience Possess a High School diploma or its equivalent. Physical Demands and Work Environment WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress, which require a range of safety and other precaution, e.g., close proximity to vehicular traffic, extreme outdoor weather conditions, subject to possible physical attack or mob conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work requires some strenuous physical exertion such as lifting, pulling and loading of equipment and of some heavy objects over 50 pounds. Possible extensive standing or sitting inside or outside and ability to defending oneself or others against physical attack.
