Overview:

The Supply technician oversees the stocking of ambulances, cleaning of garage/wash-bay, and oversight of the supply room including: receiving, stocking, inventory management, and distribution functions. This position includes daily cleaning and stocking of ambulances, cleaning of garage/wash-bay/supply room, and issuance of equipment and supplies to the crew members. This position works with considerable independence in the normal performance of duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load.

  • Receives stocks and distributes a wide variety of goods and materials used in most typical work environments plus the specialized environments of fire-rescue-EMS.
  • Evaluates equipment and materials requests to assure suitability of request. Fills and arranges the distribution of inventory and materials used in a typical fire-rescue-EMS environment
  • Performs records management functions associated with inventory tracking by assuring that all inspection and check sheets have been completed by the end of every shift.
  • Evaluates and distributes personal protective equipment and uniform items to Community Ambulance Personnel. Inspects, cleans, and repairs items as needed.
  • Conducts parts and materials inventory and use including historical tracking for the purpose of ensuring proper inventory and supply levels at all times. Applies efficient storage methods including allocations of proper bins or other storage spaces and security of stock.
  • Organizes and arranges shelving to assure items being placed on shelves are in the correct area by labeling all shelves and arranging shelving in the most efficient manner.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and returns non-disposable equipment to service.
  • Maintains the daily duties information board.
  • Completes monthly audits on ambulances, drug bags and jump bags assuring that expiration dates have not expired.
  • Cleans, details and restocks ambulances as directed and assures that all expiration dates have not expired.
  • Places security tags with initials and date on each bag or kit after restock.
  • Cleans and organizes garage and ambulance cleaning area.
  • Assists with records management functions to provide detailed record of items received, repaired, distributed, transferred, or disposed of.
  • Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule. Required to work additional shifts or assignments from time to time as needed, especially during emergencies.
  • Participates in on-going educational programs, seminars.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent; with a minimum of one year experience in inventory, logistical supply, warehousing, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. General computer experience in communications, records management/data base preferred. Knowledge of fire-rescue-EMS tools and equipment through volunteer or career employment in fire-rescue preferred.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid Nevada Driver’s License
  • Other skill and equipment specific training may be required prior to being assigned to equipment or tasks.

Physical Requirements of Job:

The following guidelines are used to describe the frequency of activities in this position:

  • Occasionally equals 1-33%
  • Frequently equals 34-66%
  • Continuously equals 67-100% of a typical work day

Physical Skills: Often requires significant physical exertion, low light, uneven terrain, heights, and confined spaces. It also requires occasional significant exertion assisting and/or lifting of boxes of supplies. Possess sufficient strength, body mechanics, dexterity and range of motion to safely move, lift, or stack supply and equipment. Exposure may occur to numerous safety risks typically found inside an ambulance or in a hospital setting.

Standing/Walking: Frequently to continuously. Most walking would be for short distances. Standing or walking could be on all types of surfaces. The individual must be able to go up and down slight inclines or declines that may be found at the facility. Standing could last from a few minutes to hours, depending on the situation.

Lifting and Carrying: Frequently required to lift and carry weights ranging from a few pounds and above. Occasionally required to lift and carry weights scaled at above 100 pounds or more. Will need to lift and carry, with possible assistance from other crew members. Other objects employee will be asked to move would include medical equipment boxes, large oxygen cylinders, and empty power gurneys to and from the ambulance.

Bending and Stooping: Frequently the individual will be required to bend in a range of 1 to 90 degrees. These situations occur while lifting supplies, lifting equipment, sitting on a bench located in the ambulance, etc. This activity may be prolonged and last up to 30 minutes or more.

Crouching and Kneeling: Frequently may be performed continuously throughout the day. The actual number of times this is done depends on the particular incident but may be up to 15 times for a duration up to 30 minutes or greater.

Climbing: Occasionally. This is required when entering and exiting the ambulance. Generally, the climbing would require lifting and carrying heavy objects such as a stretcher. Balancing may be required when backing down out of an ambulance.

Reaching: Frequently to continuously throughout the work shift in order to review monitoring equipment, restocking of supply, and to operate equipment. Reaching will involve partial to full extension of the arms.

Pushing and Pulling: Frequently. The activities that would require the most force in pushing and pulling would be moving supplies.

Handling or grasping: Frequently to continuously, while working at any given location, continual bilateral gross manipulation is performed in this position. This may be involved in opening and closing doors, carrying and operating medical equipment and devices, operation of the power gurney, and filling out of reports and other paperwork. The arm and hand must be able to perform in all positions, including supination and pronation. Hyperextension, extension and flexion of the fingers will be involved, ulnar and radial deviation, abduction and adduction of the hand and wrist will be required. A wide variety of grasping will be required.

Visual Activity: Must possess sufficient visual acuity to allow for map reading, discernment of the illuminated status of traffic signals, adequate depth perception and a field of peripheral

Vision.

Auditory Activity: Good skills to distinguish sounds in normal conversation levels.

Sensory Activity: Normal motor skills required, such as being able to type using a computer keyboard or the ability to drive an automobile.

Verbal Activity: Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of employees, co-workers, and public groups.

Hazards: Employees can be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, fire, smoke, adverse weather conditions, and chemicals. There is also exposure to body substances that may contain infectious materials that could cause illness or death.
